Silver Star Carousel, Carousel at Six Flags Over Texas, United States.
The Silver Star Carousel is a wooden carousel at Six Flags Over Texas featuring 50 jumping horses, 16 standing horses, and two dragon-carved chariots. The ride displays detailed hand-carved decorations and has been fully restored to maintain its original appearance.
William Dentzel of the Philadelphia-based Dentzel Carousel Company crafted this carousel in 1928 as one of his final works before his death that year. Originally located at Rockaways' Playland on Long Island, it was acquired by Six Flags in 1962.
The Texas Historical Commission designated this carousel as an official historical site in 1966, recognizing its importance to state heritage.
The ride lasts about 3 minutes with a rotation speed of roughly 3 miles per hour and requires a minimum height of about 42 inches. Since the carousel is constantly turning, it helps to stand calmly as the platform approaches and pauses to board and exit smoothly.
The carousel was originally purchased for approximately 25,000 dollars, which represented a substantial price for an antique attraction at that time. This investment reflects how valuable Dentzel's craftsmanship and construction were to collectors and amusement parks.
