1031 Canal

The site at 1031 Canal Street sits in the Central Business District near the French Quarter and was planned for a high-rise tower reaching approximately 190 feet. The proposed multi-story building was designed to house apartments, retail shops, and a parking structure.

A Woolworth department store built in the 1930s occupied this corner until the 1990s when the chain closed its doors. In 2011 the site received approval for a new mixed-use development combining housing and commercial space.

The structure represents the evolving architectural landscape of New Orleans, where new developments intersect with preservation efforts in historic neighborhoods.
