Bust of John McDonogh, Bronze sculpture in Duncan Plaza, New Orleans, United States
The bronze bust depicts John McDonogh, created by artist Angela Gregory and mounted on a granite pedestal near the New Orleans City Hall.
Installed in 1938 through the Federal Art Project, the bust was initially placed at McDonogh Place before its relocation to Duncan Plaza in 1958.
The monument represents the complex legacy of McDonogh, who funded numerous public schools in New Orleans while maintaining connections to the plantation economy.
Located at coordinates 29°57′12″N 90°04′33″W, the sculpture stands in a public space accessible to visitors exploring downtown New Orleans.
In June 2020, protesters removed the bust and placed it in the Mississippi River, though city officials later retrieved and secured the artwork.
