Benson Tower, High-rise building in Central Business District, New Orleans, US
Benson Tower is a 26-story high-rise in New Orleans' Central Business District rising about 406 feet with a postmodern glass and steel design. The building provides roughly 486,000 square feet of office space and features balconies overlooking Champions Square.
The tower was completed in 1989 under the name Dominion Tower as a major office building for the city. Following Hurricane Katrina's damage, it underwent extensive renovation and reopened in 2011 under new owner Tom Benson.
The building strengthens New Orleans' commercial center by housing state offices, media operations, and administrative facilities near the Mercedes-Benz Superdome.
The building sits on Poydras Street in the heart of the city and is easily accessible by public transportation. Visitors can explore the exterior and surrounding area during daylight hours, with the best views of the structure available from different angles around Champions Square.
The second floor houses television station WVUE, which broadcasts daily news and sports coverage from its studios there. This media operation gives that section of the building a distinctive purpose within the city's broadcast infrastructure.
