Hanalei Bay, Crescent-shaped bay on the north shore of Kauai, United States.
The two-mile-long curved bay extends between basalt cliffs, featuring white sand beaches and mountains reaching heights of 4,000 feet in the background.
In 1824, King Kamehameha II's royal yacht Pride of Hawaii sank near the Waioli River after striking a reef, leading to archaeological excavations in the 1990s.
Native Hawaiian families maintain traditional taro farming practices in the fertile wetlands surrounding the bay, continuing centuries-old agricultural methods.
During summer months from May to September, the bay provides safe conditions for swimming, paddleboarding, and snorkeling, with lifeguards stationed at the beach.
The Smithsonian Institution recovered over 1,200 artifacts from the Pride of Hawaii shipwreck, including items from the Hawaiian royal family.
