O'Connell Center, multipurpose sports facility of the University of Florida

The O'Connell Center, often called the O-Dome, is a large indoor arena on the campus of the University of Florida in Gainesville. The building holds about 12,000 people and serves as the home court for basketball and volleyball teams, while also hosting gymnastics, swimming, and diving competitions.

The arena opened in 1980 as a major sports facility for the University of Florida. It underwent major renovations in 1998 and again in 2016 to modernize the space with new scoreboards, improved lighting, and updated amenities for visitors.

The arena is named after Stephen C. O'Connell, a former university president whose name appears on signs throughout the building. Fans and students gather here to celebrate school spirit and create shared memories during games and community events.

The arena is conveniently located near campus and walkable by foot or bike, though parking nearby can be limited during busy events. Arriving early or using alternative transportation is recommended, especially when large crowds are expected.

The nickname O-Dome originated from the building's dome-like roof and has become deeply rooted among fans, even though the official name is O'Connell Center. This nickname has been used for decades and remains part of the local identity.
