Great Gasp, Para tower at Six Flags Over Georgia, US.
Great Gasp was a drop-tower ride at Six Flags Over Georgia that lifted passengers about 225 feet into the air in gondolas. From that height, they experienced a controlled free-fall descent with full safety harnesses and restraints in place.
The ride opened in 1976 and thrilled guests for nearly three decades at the park. It closed permanently in 2005, marking the end of a memorable era for the theme park.
The ride design drew inspiration from the Parachute Jump attraction that operated at the 1939 New York World's Fair and later at Steeplechase Park.
The ride was suitable for most visitors but required courage due to the weightless sensation at the top. Access happened through multiple loading stations, though available capacity changed over time.
During the New Year 1990 celebration, the tower featured a large 1991 sign and became a launch platform for fireworks. This combined spectacle made the night particularly memorable for many guests.
