Cayce, city in Lexington and Richland counties in South Carolina, United States
Cayce is a city in Lexington and Richland County, South Carolina, located along the Congaree River and situated near downtown Columbia. The city features parks and trails including the Riverwalk and Timmerman Trail, which wind through wooded areas alongside river bluffs and connect to the larger Three Rivers Greenway system.
Cayce has an earlier European settlement history than Columbia and was among the earliest European settlements in the Midlands region. The Cayce Historical Museum preserves artifacts from Native American times, the Colonial period, and the Revolutionary War era.
The city has wide walking trails like the Timmerman Trail, a paved path that is easy to navigate, and well-marked routes through its parks. Visitors should note that Congaree Creek can be tricky for paddling because it winds tightly and has fallen trees in the water.
The name of the city references its river location, so it is often called the City by the River. The Congaree Creek Heritage Preserve with its loop route shows old sites and ponds that are part of the region's less-visited historical landscape.
