Saint Mary's College of California, Liberal arts college in Moraga, United States
Saint Mary's College of California is a private institution in Moraga that spreads across 420 acres of land with buildings in Spanish Colonial Revival style. The campus sits in a suburb of San Francisco and includes chapels, libraries, and athletic facilities surrounded by open green spaces.
The institution was founded in 1863 by Archbishop José Sadoc Alemany with financial support from Mary Ellen Pleasant and was originally located in San Francisco. In 1928 the school moved to Moraga, where it has remained since.
The campus museum displays paintings by William Keith and serves as the only accredited art museum in Contra Costa County. Visitors can view works by a landscape painter who documented California's natural scenery during the 19th century.
The campus is open to visitors during school terms, with certain areas reserved for students and staff. Parking is available near main buildings and makes access to public spaces easier.
The Integral Program follows a Great Books curriculum in which students read classic texts and discuss them in seminars. This method connects literature, philosophy, and science in a shared learning approach.
