Signal Peak stands at 5,880 feet elevation in the Coast Range mountains, offering views across northern California's varied mountain landscapes and forests.
The peak received its name from a heliograph station established around 1900, though it was previously known as Lassecks Peak on an 1898 map.
The mountain bears historical connection to Lassic, a Native American leader during the Bald Hills War, with two nearby peaks named Red Lassic and Black Lassic.
Visitors can reach Signal Peak via the Jeep Trail, which serves as the primary access route through the Mount Lassic Wilderness managed by Forest Service.
The surrounding 7,279-acre area gained protection under the National Wilderness Preservation System through United States Congress designation in 2006.
