Mount Hopkins is a mountain summit in the John Muir Wilderness north of Kings Canyon National Park in California. The peak sits within the Sierra Nevada range and forms part of a group of mountains surrounding Pioneer Basin.
The peak was named after Mark Hopkins, a railroad businessman who helped develop the Central Pacific Railroad during the 1800s. The first documented ascent took place in 1934 when a group of experienced climbers reached the summit.
Three experienced mountaineers, David Brower, Norman Clyde, and Hervey Voge, completed the first documented climb of Mount Hopkins in 1934.
Climbing this peak requires mountaineering skills and proper gear for safety. The eastern approach offers the most straightforward route, though it remains challenging and should only be attempted by experienced climbers.
