Mount Morgan, Mountain peak in Mono County, United States.
Mount Morgan is a peak in the Eastern Sierra Nevada that rises to 13,748 feet, making it the tallest summit in the Rock Creek region. The mountain is typically approached via the Tamarack Lakes Trailhead and offers a mix of marked trails and unmarked terrain.
The peak was named in 1878 during the Wheeler Survey, honoring J. H. Morgan from Alabama who served on the expedition team. This survey period saw many summits in the Sierra Nevada receive their official names.
The peak forms part of the Sierra Peaks Section Peaks List, attracting mountaineers who document their ascents through the established Northwest Ridge route.
The route is best tackled in late summer when snow has melted and the terrain is dry. Bring sturdy hiking boots and plenty of water to manage the elevation gain and full day of walking.
Two separate peaks share the Mount Morgan name within about 8 miles of each other in this region. The southern summit towers roughly 747 feet above its northern counterpart.
