Mount Mills, Mountain summit in Inyo County, California, United States
Mount Mills is a mountain summit reaching 13,468 feet (4,105 m) and stands between Ruby Peak and Mount Abbot. It marks the boundary between northwestern Inyo County and eastern Fresno County.
The peak was named at the suggestion of the Sierra Club to honor Darius O. Mills, a California banker and philanthropist who had passed away. The naming reflects the historical connection between prominent regional figures and Sierra Nevada summits.
The peak sits within the John Muir Wilderness and forms part of the Sierra Peaks Section list that mountaineers work to complete. Many climbers view it as a stepping stone in their collection of technical ascents.
Hikers access the peak from the Mosquito Flat trailhead on Rock Creek Road, following a roughly four-mile trail to reach it. Permits are needed for overnight camping, and starting early provides better weather and light conditions for the climb.
The peak features a critical chokestone bypass on the East Face that serves as a key landmark for climbers selecting their route. This rock passage is often used by experienced mountaineers as an indicator of the optimal path to the summit.
