The Grand Canal Shoppes, Shopping center in Las Vegas, United States
This shopping center features a recreation of the Grand Canal of Venice, complete with gondola rides along a quarter-mile indoor waterway and a painted sky ceiling that mimics the Italian outdoors.
The shopping center opened on June 16, 1999, as part of The Venetian Resort development, and later expanded with the addition of The Shoppes at the Palazzo in 2008 to accommodate over 200 stores.
The complex recreates the architectural style of Venice with cobblestone walkways, Italian-themed facades, outdoor-style cafes, and live performances including opera singers, acrobats, and stilt walkers that enhance the European atmosphere.
The shopping center spans approximately 875,000 square feet (81,290 square meters) across two levels and offers valet parking, self-parking facilities, and access via the Las Vegas Strip and the nearby monorail system.
Visitors can ride authentic gondolas steered by singing gondoliers through indoor canals while shopping at luxury stores, creating a romantic Italian experience without leaving the Las Vegas desert.
