SkyJump Las Vegas, Controlled skydiving platform at Stratosphere Tower, Las Vegas, United States.
SkyJump Las Vegas is a controlled-descent ride located at the Stratosphere Tower in Las Vegas, Nevada, where participants leap from platform 108 at a height of 855 feet. The system guides riders down the side of the tower at speeds reaching 40 mph (64 km/h), using a cable mechanism that regulates the fall and brings them to a soft landing on a platform at ground level.
The ride opened in 2010 as the first installation of its kind in North America, following similar versions in Macau and New Zealand. Tower management introduced it to offer a new experience that differed from the other thrill rides already operating on the rooftop observation deck.
Locals refer to the tower simply as 'the Strat,' and many residents take friends or relatives up for the jump as a way to show off the city's adventurous side. The ride has become a test of courage for visitors who want to say they've tried something few people dare to attempt during a weekend in Nevada.
Visitors must be at least 52 inches tall and weigh no more than 265 pounds to participate in the jump. Staff members provide a safety briefing and fit each jumper with a harness before guiding them to the launch platform on level 108.
Each jumper wears a special jacket fitted with sensors that record the entire descent and capture footage from multiple angles. The video can be purchased afterward and includes both the jumper's perspective and views of the city skyline during the fall.
