Yavapai County extends across 8,125 square miles of diverse terrain, from Sonoran Desert landscapes to pine forests at elevations reaching 7,979 feet.
Established in 1865 as one of Arizona Territory's original four counties, this region functioned as the territorial capital through Prescott from 1864 to 1867.
Multiple educational institutions enrich the county, including two colleges and an aeronautical university, while museums preserve the territorial and Native American heritage.
The county board of supervisors conducts public meetings on the first and third Wednesday monthly at the administrative center in Prescott.
Federal agencies manage 75 percent of the county land, including sections of three national forests: Prescott, Tonto, and Coconino.
