Warm Springs Natural Area

Warm Springs Natural Area is a protected nature preserve featuring more than 20 natural warm springs surrounded by dense vegetation and flowing streams. The grounds include wetlands, California fan palms, and various plant species that thrive in this arid climate.

The land was acquired by Howard Hughes in the 1960s and later managed by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints before transitioning to its current status as a protected nature preserve. These ownership changes ultimately resulted in the conservation measures that protect the area today.

Native American tribes relied on these springs as a vital water source, shaping their settlements around this rare desert resource for centuries. Visitors walking through the area can still sense the historical importance of this place to the people who lived here.

Free guided walking tours are available year-round on scheduled dates and last about one hour. Wear comfortable walking shoes and bring plenty of water, especially during warmer months.

The area features more than 20 natural warm springs that maintain consistent temperatures year-round, allowing California fan palms to thrive at this elevation in the desert. These plants are a rare sight in such an arid setting at this altitude.
