Morgan, city in Morgan County, Utah, United States
Morgan is a small city in Morgan County, Utah, located on both sides of the Weber River. The area covers over 1000 acres, mostly with farming lands and wooded hills, while the Wasatch Range rises in the distance and shapes the horizon.
The city was formed in 1868 by merging North Morgan and South Morgan, each founded by settlers in 1860 and 1861. The building of the transcontinental railroad in the late 1860s drove economic growth, as it was the only city on the line between Omaha and Ogden.
The city takes its name from Jedediah Morgan Grant, an LDS Church leader who helped establish a road through Weber Canyon to the area. Today, farmers markets at Scotsman Center and local craft traditions shape community life, where residents and visitors share seasonal goods and handmade items.
The city sits at about 5,080 feet (1550 meters) elevation with cool nights and short growing seasons that shape the landscape and climate. Riverside Park by the Weber River, with picnic areas, a baseball field, and a theater pavilion, is a good starting point for activities and relaxation.
Early residents built a canal and ditch system using simple tools that still functions today and was one of the area's first community projects. This irrigation system shows the creativity and cooperation of pioneers who laid the foundation for agricultural development.
