Robbers Roost, Canyon system in central Utah, United States

Robbers Roost is a canyon system in central Utah made up of interconnected sandstone formations with deep gorges, narrow passages, and sheer rock walls. The terrain spreads across desert landscape with numerous hidden alcoves and cave formations throughout.

The area became a refuge for Butch Cassidy and his Wild Bunch gang in the late 1800s, who hid here between train and bank robberies. This remote region offered perfect conditions for outlaw activities far from authorities.

The place carries marks of its outlaw past through old structures scattered across the canyons, including corrals and storage sites. These remains serve as physical reminders of those who once hid in this remote landscape.

Access requires high-clearance four-wheel-drive vehicles, as all routes involve extensive travel on unpaved desert roads. Any trip to this remote area should be planned with plenty of water and basic supplies.

The Bluejohn Canyon section gained worldwide attention after Aaron Ralston became trapped by a boulder and later inspired a film about his survival. This incident illustrates just how isolated and hazardous the terrain truly is.
