Taktsé Castle, Ancient royal castle in Qiongjie, China.
The stone castle stands on an elevation near Riwo Dechen monastery, providing views of the surrounding Shannan prefecture in Tibet Autonomous Region.
The castle served as a military stronghold for Namri Songtsen in the early 7th century, enabling control over surrounding clans before Tibet's unification.
The castle marked the center of authority for the Tibetan monarchy and later became the birthplace of the Fifth Dalai Lama in 1617.
The castle ruins are accessible through roads leading to Qiongjie, located 186 kilometers from Lhasa and 120 kilometers from Lhasa Gonggar Airport.
The castle sent diplomatic missions to the Chinese Sui dynasty in 608 and 609, marking early international relations between Tibet and China.
