Lhasa Great Mosque

The Lhasa Great Mosque spans 2,600 square meters with a three-entrance courtyard and includes a prayer hall, ablution facilities, and bathrooms within its 1,300-square-meter building area.

Built in 1716 and expanded in 1793 by Kashmiri traders, the mosque underwent several transformations, including destruction in 1959 and 2008, with subsequent rebuilding efforts.

The prayer hall of 285 square meters incorporates traditional Zang architectural elements while serving as a central gathering place for Lhasa's Hui Muslim community.

The mosque maintains regular prayer schedules and provides essential facilities for Muslim residents and travelers, with adjacent halal food establishments in the surrounding area.

During periods of regional tension, armed personnel are stationed at the mosque's minaret, reflecting the complex political dynamics within the Tibetan Autonomous Region.
