Hong Kong Sports Institute, Sports training center in Sha Tin District, Hong Kong
The Hong Kong Sports Institute is a sports training center in Sha Tin District with multiple facilities for different sports. Its riverside campus houses swimming pools, cycling tracks, squash courts, martial arts venues, and sports science laboratories where athletes train and receive technical analysis.
The facility opened in 1982 as Jubilee Sports Centre with support from the Royal Hong Kong Jockey Club. It was renamed in 1991 and gradually expanded into the comprehensive training hub it is today.
The institute plays a central role in developing Hong Kong's athletic talent by supporting competitors across many sports. It brings together athletes, coaches, and specialists who work toward regional and international competitions.
Visitors can walk around the campus to see the training facilities and modern equipment in use. The site is straightforward to navigate and offers a good sense of how athletes prepare for competition.
During preparations for the 2008 Olympics, the entire institute temporarily relocated to another location to make space for equestrian competitions. This shift shows how central the facility is to Hong Kong's sporting plans.
