Bridge Creek Wildlife Area

Bridge Creek Wildlife Area is a protected site within the Ochoco National Forest region that combines riparian corridors, forest sections, and open meadow land. The property spans over 1,100 acres and features diverse terrain that supports many species across different habitats.

The site became protected in the early 1960s through a series of land acquisitions that expanded over several decades. Key property purchases continued until the mid-1970s to complete the reserve as it exists today.

The area serves as an important refuge for wildlife observation and draws visitors interested in seeing native animals in their natural surroundings. Local bird watchers consider it a valued destination for experiencing the region's natural life.

The area can be reached via exit 209 off Interstate 84, followed by heading south on Route 395 and turning onto Granite/Ukiah Road 52. Checking local road conditions before arrival is helpful, especially during winter months when snow may affect access.

The reserve is known for hosting mountain bluebirds, horned larks, and red crossbills, species that visitors often travel specifically to observe. These birds use the varied terrain and elevation zones for their seasonal movements.
