Mount Hornaday, Mountain summit in Yellowstone National Park, United States.

Mount Hornaday is a summit in the northeastern section of Yellowstone National Park within the Absaroka Range, standing at approximately 10,000 feet elevation. The peak features typical high-altitude environments with dense coniferous forest transitioning to alpine vegetation as you climb higher.

The peak was named in 1938 after William Temple Hornaday, a conservationist who spent his career protecting American bison from extinction. This naming honored his conservation legacy during a period of active effort to save the threatened species.

The mountain stands as a symbol of American conservation efforts, representing the national commitment to preserving wildlife in Yellowstone National Park.

The best season for visiting is summer through early autumn, from June to September, when trails are snow-free and generally passable. Visitors should prepare for variable mountain weather and bring adequate water and gear for a strenuous uphill hike.

The peak is directly connected to early bison protection efforts, making it a quiet monument to conservation history. Its name reminds visitors of how individual dedication helped save a species from disappearing.
