Farwell Canyon

Farwell Canyon is a valley and canyon formation in British Columbia where the Chilcotin River cuts through steep rock walls, creating deep gorges with exposed geological layers. These formations span millions of years of Earth's history and shape the landscape throughout the area.

The Tsilhqot'in First Nation named this place Nagwentled, meaning place of landslides, and used it as a primary salmon fishing ground for generations. The name and historical use reveal the long connection between First Nations and this river valley.

Ancient pictographs on the canyon walls tell stories of First Nations communities who lived in this region for countless generations.

Access to the canyon is via marked trails, with parking available near the main viewpoint area. The best time to visit is during dry weather, as trails can become slippery when wet.

Natural sand dunes and distinctive rock formations called hoodoos create a surreal landscape within the canyon. These geological features are uncommon to see and draw visitors seeking unusual natural wonders.
