A’ali West Burial Mound Field

The burial field contains thousands of ancient mounds arranged in small groups, each featuring a central stone chamber enclosed by ring walls.

Dating from 2050 to 1700 BCE, these burial mounds belonged to the Dilmun civilization and represent different social classes of the period.

The mounds contain numerous artifacts including pottery, jewelry, and tools that demonstrate trade connections between Dilmun and other ancient societies.

The site maintains regular visiting hours and offers guided tours through the archaeological complex, with informative panels explaining the excavation findings.

A specific tumulus excavated in 1982 revealed over 140 skeletons, indicating a transition from individual to collective burials in late Dilmun periods.
