Upper Cheung Sha Beach

Upper Cheung Sha Beach is a sandy stretch on the southern coast of Lantau Island offering views across the water toward Cha Kwo Chau and the Soko Islands. The shore features gentle slopes into clear waters and is backed by green hills that frame the bay.

The beach formed naturally along Lantau's coast and became a recreational destination for island residents over time. Modern facilities such as barbecue areas and lifeguard services were gradually added to accommodate growing visitor use.

This beach serves as a gathering place where Hong Kong residents come to cook together using the seven barbecue areas scattered along the shore. These cooking spots are central to how locals experience and share time at this location.

The beach is best visited early in the morning or on weekdays to avoid crowds and enjoy clearer views of the surrounding water and islands. Bring water and sun protection as there is limited shade along the shoreline.

The beach includes tactile guide paths and braille markers that help visitors with mobility challenges navigate independently along the shore. These accessibility features make it one of the few beaches in the region designed with everyone in mind.
