Ngong Ping 360, Gondola lift system in Lantau Island, Hong Kong
Ngong Ping 360 is a gondola lift on Lantau Island in Hong Kong, China. The system crosses forested slopes and climbs from sea level to a plateau above, passing over valleys and ridges along the way.
The system opened in September 2006, replacing limited mountain road and bus connections. Construction had started two years earlier to improve access to the remote plateau area.
The cable car terminal leads to Ngong Ping Village, where visitors find exhibitions about local traditions alongside the Po Lin Monastery and Tian Tan Buddha.
The ride takes about 25 minutes as the cabins pass several support towers and the scenery shifts from coastal areas to mountain terrain. Visitors sensitive to heights should consider this before boarding, as the cabins travel over open valleys.
Some cabins have glass floors that allow riders to look straight down at the country park and airport below. These transparent cabins cost extra and book out quickly during busy periods.
