Pok To Yan, Mountain summit on Lantau Island, Hong Kong.
Pok To Yan is a mountain summit on Lantau Island that rises about 529 meters above the Tung Chung area. Its slopes are covered with native plants and the peak connects to surrounding ridges through a distinctive jagged profile.
The mountain and Por Kai Shan, its neighboring peak, gained protected status in 1994 as a Site of Special Scientific Interest for environmental reasons. This designation marked the beginning of formal conservation efforts in the area.
The name means blade-like edge in Chinese and comes from how the ridge stands out sharply against the sky. Locals have long recognized this distinctive silhouette when looking across the surrounding landscape.
The hike starts from trails near Tung Chung Railway Station with an ascent time of roughly three hours to the peak. Good footwear and plenty of water are important since the terrain is steep and weather can change quickly in this exposed location.
The summit area supports more than 200 plant species, many of them protected indigenous varieties that thrive on the volcanic rock. This plant diversity makes it a valuable refuge for rare flora found nowhere else nearby.
