Silver Mine Bay Beach, Public beach in Mui Wo, Hong Kong

Silver Mine Bay Beach is a public sandy shore in Mui Wo with calm water and natural views of the surrounding coastline. The beach includes multiple barbecue areas, changing facilities, and recreational spaces for visitors to enjoy throughout the day.

The beach is named after a silver mine worked in Mui Wo in the 19th century. It long lacked lifeguards; improvement works begun on 21 November 2016 were completed in July 2018, adding a barbecue area, sitting-out area and viewing deck, opened on 22 July 2018, when lifeguard services were introduced for the first time.

The name comes from a 19th-century silver mine in Mui Wo, not from the sand itself. The beach is gazetted and managed by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department, and its 24 barbecue pits sit beside a beach volleyball court, changing rooms and a fast food kiosk. In 2020 its seven-month bathing season drew 28,150 visitors, 1,740 of them on the busiest day.

Silver Mine Bay Beach runs 210 metres along Tung Wan Tau Road in Mui Wo, on Lantau Island, and is managed by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department. It has changing rooms, showers, toilets, a family changing room, a babycare room and a fast food kiosk. Lifeguard services were introduced only in 2018, after improvement works finished that July.
