Hadrut District, Administrative district in Nagorno-Karabakh region, Azerbaijan.
Hadrut District is an administrative area in the mountainous Nagorno-Karabakh region of southwestern Azerbaijan. The territory is shaped by several river valleys and contains the town of Hadrut as its administrative center.
The district was established on 8 August 1930 as part of the Azerbaijani SSR. After decades under Armenian control, Azerbaijani administration returned in 2020.
The area displays a mix of Armenian and Azerbaijani building styles visible in its churches and houses. These different architectural elements show how various communities shaped the landscape over time.
The area connects to major Azerbaijani cities through a network of roads, making travel to the region straightforward. The mountainous terrain can affect travel times, as routes may include steeper and more challenging stretches.
The area holds many archaeological sites with artifacts from pre-Christian times, including ancient fortress ruins and medieval defensive walls. These remains show that the region has been inhabited for thousands of years.
