Gazakh-Tovuz Economic Region, Economic region in northwestern Azerbaijan
Gazakh-Tovuz Economic Region is an area in northwestern Azerbaijan comprising five districts with a mix of hilly and agricultural terrain. The districts form a single economic zone with varying landscapes of valleys, plateaus, and farmland.
The area was created in 2021 when Azerbaijan reorganized its economic regions and combined territories that previously belonged to a different administrative zone. This restructuring was part of a larger economic reorganization across the country.
The area maintains traditional farming methods rooted in local family practices and passed down through generations in rural communities. These approaches shape daily life and remain visible in how people work the land across the districts.
The area borders Georgia to the north and other regions to the south and west, making it a central crossing point for travel through the northwest. Understanding this position helps visitors navigate between the different districts.
The region contains different topographies and climates, ranging from forested mountain landscapes in the north to open flatland plains in the south. This variation makes each of the five districts distinctly different in appearance and living conditions.
