Munshiganj District, Administrative district in Dhaka Division, Bangladesh
The district stretches over 954 square kilometers with 14 rivers crossing its territory, making it a region shaped by waterways and agricultural lands.
Established in 1984 as an administrative unit, the district inherited the name of its capital city Munshiganj and holds centuries of Bengali cultural heritage.
Annual boat races on the Dhaleshwari River bring together thousands of participants and spectators, maintaining traditional maritime activities of the region.
The district contains six administrative subdivisions called upazilas, 67 union councils, and 906 villages, serving a population of over 1.6 million residents.
The territory includes 138,472 acres of cultivable land irrigated by an extensive network of rivers, supporting agricultural production throughout the region.
