Nateshwar Deul

Nateshwar Deul is an archaeological excavation site in Tongibari containing medieval Buddhist structures, including stupas, temples, and monastery buildings. The location displays different architectural forms from various periods of Buddhist settlement.

The site was first established as a Buddhist settlement around 780 CE and grew into an important center over several centuries. Building activity ended after around 1200 CE when the region's religious focus shifted.

You can see the remains of monasteries and temples that show how Buddhist communities lived and worshipped at this location. The ruins reveal how central this place was to religious life and spiritual practice.

Visitors can tour the excavation through local authorities in Munshiganj District who offer guided visits. It helps to wear comfortable shoes and prepare for exposed foundations and uneven ground.

Excavations have uncovered an unusual pyramid-shaped stupa that differs from the typical rounded building forms found elsewhere. This structure is a rare example of its kind in Buddhist architecture across the region.
