Montana Province, Administrative province in northwestern Bulgaria
Montana Province is an administrative region in northwestern Bulgaria situated between the Danube River and the Balkan Mountains. It comprises eleven municipalities with agricultural lands, forests, and diverse natural environments spread across the territory.
The area originated as a Roman military installation known as Castra ad Montanesium and later became an important settlement. In the late 1990s, it was reorganized into its current provincial structure as part of Bulgaria's administrative reforms.
The region is home to Bulgarian, Roma, and Turkish communities that practice Orthodox Christianity and maintain their distinct local traditions and ways of life.
The city of Montana serves as the administrative hub and is accessible via established road networks linking to neighboring regions. Visitors can explore the province by car or contact local offices for information about accommodations and activities.
The municipality of Chiprovtsi is recognized for its handmade carpet production using traditional methods and patterns passed down through generations. This craft remains a living tradition that visitors can encounter in the local community.
