Thracian tomb Griffins, Ancient Thracian burial site in Shipka, Bulgaria.
The Thracian Tomb Griffins is an ancient burial structure with a corridor of river stones leading to an antechamber. The main chamber is built with a precisely constructed granite dome ceiling and contains a ritual bed alongside stone doors.
The burial site was discovered in 1996 in the valley between Shipka and Sheynovo, an important region for Thracian royal graves. Its construction and furnishings date back approximately 2400 years.
The tomb takes its name from the griffin decorations adorning its entrance, showing how skillfully the Thracians designed their burial places. This craftsmanship is visible in the stone doors that visitors can still observe today.
The site is straightforward to enter and visitors can view the internal structures up close. Most visitors should plan about one hour to examine the various chambers and details.
Researchers found metal gold paws placed in front of the ritual bed inside, offering rare insights into Thracian burial customs. These valuable objects show that such graves were reserved for particularly important individuals.
