Svetitsa mound

Svetitsa mound is an ancient Thracian grave built with stone blocks and trapezoidal slabs arranged in a deep chamber. The site shows careful construction methods used for burials, with chambers and artifacts still visible today.

The tomb dates to the ancient Thracian kingdom and was discovered by archaeologists in 2004. The excavation provided early evidence of burial practices and the belongings of Thracian leaders.

The burial chamber reflects how the Thracian people honored their dead and what they valued for the afterlife. Visitors can see traces of their skilled craftsmanship in the objects that remain.

The open-air museum sits in a rural area and is easily explored on foot. It is best to wear comfortable shoes and be ready for uneven ground conditions.

The excavation uncovered a precious gold mask that ranks among the finest examples of Thracian metalwork. This discovery is considered one of Bulgaria's most important archaeological finds.
