Night Mares, Rotating thrill ride at Canada's Wonderland, Ontario
Night Mares is a rotating ride at Canada's Wonderland featuring twelve suspended carriages arranged in a circle that spin and tilt to a 90-degree angle during operation. The 90-second ride uses gravitational force instead of seat belts to keep riders in place as it reaches full speed.
The ride opened in 1981 alongside Canada's Wonderland as a HUSS UFO model and was temporarily renamed Night Mares in 1997. It has operated continuously as part of the park since its opening with the original mechanical concept still in use today.
The ride sits in the Medieval Faire section of the park, where its design and name fit the medieval theme that visitors see throughout the area. This themed environment creates an immersive experience that carries the story beyond just the mechanical ride itself.
Riders must be at least 137 centimeters (54 inches) tall to experience this attraction, which accelerates quickly to create an intense ride. Wearing loose clothing is recommended and it is wise to secure any loose items since the spinning and tilting motion involves significant movement.
This is North America's only operating HUSS UFO model and reaches full speed in approximately 16 seconds from a standstill. This technical achievement makes it a rare mechanical ride with distinctive operational characteristics that few visitors might notice.
