Orbiter, Spinning attraction at Canada's Wonderland, Ontario, Canada
The Orbiter was a spinning ride featuring fifteen gondolas arranged in a circle that rotated both horizontally and vertically while operating. The structure reached considerable heights, offering riders a complex mechanical experience with multiple directions of motion.
The ride opened in 1981 under the name Sol Loco as a HUSS Enterprise model and operated for decades at the park. It completed its final cycle in 2018 before being permanently dismantled in early 2019.
The ride served as a central focal point for thrill seekers at the amusement park, attracting visitors looking for mechanical excitement and spinning sensations. Its location made it a familiar landmark for returning guests who remembered it across different seasons and years.
Each gondola seated two riders, allowing the ride to carry thirty passengers per complete cycle. The entire experience lasted roughly two minutes, making it a quick but intense attraction for guests.
The ride relied solely on gravitational forces to keep riders secure within protective cages rather than using conventional safety belts. This unusual safety approach intensified the physical sensations riders experienced during their two minutes on the machine.
