Hohberghorn

Hohberghorn, Mountain summit in Pennine Alps, Switzerland

Hohberghorn is a mountain summit in the Pennine Alps reaching 4,218 meters elevation and forms part of the exposed Nadelgrat ridge. The peak sits between steep terrain with views across Saas-Fee and the Mattertal valley below.

The first ascent took place in August 1869 when R. B. Heathcote climbed the western gully with guides Franz Biner, Peter Perren, and Peter Taugwalder. Since then the peak has remained a recognized climbing destination in the region.

The mountain serves as a training ground for climbers preparing for advanced routes, with its northeast face featuring a 320-meter climb at 50 degrees.

Reaching this summit requires climbing experience and technical skill with mountaineering. The Mischabelhütte at 3,329 meters (10,922 feet) and the Bordierhütte at 2,886 meters (9,468 feet) provide shelter during summer for those planning ascents.

The north face offers technical rock climbing without ice seracs, attracting mountaineers who prefer less crowded routes in the area. Many visitors overlook this option compared to the busier glacier routes nearby.
