Dom Hut, Mountain hut at 2940 meters in Randa, Switzerland

Dom Hut is a mountain refuge at 2940 meters (9645 feet) on the western slope near Festigletscher glacier in Valais. The stone building provides overnight accommodation for climbers and serves as a starting point for several climbing routes in the surrounding peaks.

The refuge was founded in 1890 by the Swiss Alpine Club to serve as a base camp for mountaineers. It represents an important moment when organized alpinism in Switzerland took shape.

The hut is part of the local mountaineering heritage and shows how climbers live and work at high altitude. It reflects the traditional way alpinists in this region have organized their expeditions over time.

The ascent from Randa village is demanding and takes about 4 hours with elevation gain of roughly 1500 meters (4920 feet). Start early in the day, wear sturdy mountain boots, and prepare for rapidly changing weather conditions at this altitude.

The refuge serves as the gateway for climbers attempting to reach seven major Alpine peaks, making it a central hub for Valais mountaineering. This concentration of multiple routes from a single location is uncommon and makes it especially valuable for expedition planning.
