Emperors Yan and Huang, Monumental sculpture in Zhengzhou, China
The stone sculpture emerges from a mountain along the Yellow River, featuring two identical faces of emperors measuring 51 meters in height upon a 55-meter platform.
Construction of this colossal monument started in 1991 after Wang Renmin proposed the concept in 1987, with completion achieved in 2007 at a cost of 180 million yuan.
The statues depict Yan Di and Huang Di, two foundational emperors in Chinese mythology who introduced agriculture and civilization to early Chinese society.
The monument incorporates 7,000 cubic meters of concrete, 1,500 tons of steel, and 6,000 cubic meters of granite from Taihang Mountain in its construction.
The faces of the emperors span over 1,000 square meters, with eyes measuring 3 meters and noses extending 8 meters in length.
