Historic Monuments of Dengfeng in “The Centre of Heaven and Earth”

The Historic Monuments of Dengfeng include eight architectural groups spread across Mount Songshan, featuring temples, pagodas, and scientific observation buildings.

The Songyue Pagoda, constructed during the Northern Wei Dynasty in 523, stands as one of the earliest stone pagodas in Chinese architectural history.

The Shaolin Temple within the monument complex maintains its position as the primary center for Chinese martial arts training and Buddhist meditation practices.

Visitors can reach the monuments by taking a high-speed train to Zhengzhou, followed by a bus ride to Dengfeng, with guided tours available in multiple languages.

The Gaocheng Observatory, built in 1276, contains a 40-foot tall stone sundial that measured the sun's shadow to determine solstices and equinoxes.
