Noonday Gun, Artillery piece in Causeway Bay, Hong Kong.
The Noonday Gun consists of a bronze breech-loading cannon mounted on a platform overlooking Victoria Harbour, firing daily at noon with precision.
The British military established this time signal in 1860 for merchant ships and sailors, relocating it from Gough Island to its current position.
The daily firing ritual has integrated into Hong Kong life, drawing crowds of residents and visitors who gather to witness this maritime tradition.
Visitors can reach the gun site through the pedestrian tunnel near the World Trade Centre, with the firing ceremony starting ten minutes before noon.
The Jardine Matheson company maintains this tradition by having a guard in uniform ring a bell before firing the cannon each day.
