Lintong District

Lintong District is an administrative area east of Xi'an's center, spreading across rolling terrain with several important archaeological sites. The region houses the famous imperial mausoleum and numerous museums displaying artifacts from ancient Chinese periods.

The district was created in 1997 through an administrative restructuring when Lintong County was converted to its current urban status. This transformation enabled better management of the region's numerous archaeological sites and cultural resources.

The Emperor Qinshihuang's Mausoleum draws visitors interested in the terracotta army and burial treasures dating back over two millennia. The site reveals how ancient Chinese rulers prepared for the afterlife and reflects the power they wielded during their reign.

The area connects to central Xi'an via Metro Line 9, making it easy to reach the various museums and archaeological sites. Most major attractions are located near each other, allowing visitors to explore multiple locations in a single day.

The region houses the National Time Service Center, which has maintained the official time standard for mainland China since the 1960s. This observatory operates behind the scenes, yet its measurements synchronize time across the entire country.
