Mêdog County, Administrative division in Nyingchi, Tibet, China

The county stretches across 31,273 square kilometers of mountainous terrain, containing the Yarlung Tsangpo Grand Canyon and numerous valleys at 1,200 meters elevation.

The region transformed from Pomi kingdom territory to an administrative county in 1986, following its separation from Lhasa jurisdiction and integration into Nyingchi.

The population of 14,889 residents includes Monba, Lhoba, Tibetan, and Han communities, with the Tshangla language serving as primary communication method.

The completion of Mêdog Highway in 2013 established the first permanent road connection to the county, replacing previous reliance on foot travel.

The area receives exceptional annual rainfall between 2,000 to 5,000 millimeters and maintains 340 frost-free days, supporting diverse subtropical vegetation.
