The Shenyang Railway Museum is a railway museum located in Sujiatun District in Shenyang, China. It displays over 800 locomotives and exhibits across approximately 80,000 square meters, including railway equipment, historical records, photographs, and safety materials.
The museum opened in 2009, growing out of the Qipanshan Botanical Garden before moving to Tiexi Forest Park. Its collection traces 120 years of railway expansion in the region starting from 1891.
The collection brings together locomotives from nine countries, reflecting how railways shaped different nations. Walking through the exhibits, you see how each design tells a story about industrial development and engineering choices in different parts of the world.
The museum sits on Shandan Street in the Sujiatun District and covers a large area with many outdoor spaces. Plan for several hours to move through the exhibits and explore the different display areas at a comfortable pace.
The museum houses a rare SL7 locomotive built by Kawasaki Heavy Industries in 1943, engineered for speeds up to 130 kilometers per hour. This Japanese machine stands out as a remarkable example among the international collection.
