Sacred Heart Cathedral of Shenyang

The Sacred Heart Cathedral is a church building with pointed arches, ribbed vaults, and two towers rising approximately 40 meters, following European ecclesiastical design principles. The interior displays traditional Catholic architectural elements arranged across multiple levels.

French architect Henri Lamasse designed this building, which was constructed using reparation funds from the Qing government following the Boxer Rebellion. Its completion marked the establishment of Catholic presence in this region of China.

The cathedral serves as a gathering place for believers from across the region and illustrates how foreign religions took root in Northeast China. Regular worship draws a local community that continues to make this building central to their spiritual life today.
