Perowne Barracks, Military barracks in Tuen Mun District, Hong Kong.
Perowne Barracks is a former military complex in Tuen Mun with multiple buildings, including a guard post and former gymnasium near Castle Peak Road. The site spans a large area and is now used for training academy functions and storage operations.
The British Army established this military camp in 1931 under the name Tai Lam Military Camp and operated it as a base until closure in 1994. The transition to new uses marked the end of a military era at this location.
The barracks was home to the Gurkha Brigade, and Nepali script remains visible on several structures throughout the compound. These marks reflect the long presence of soldiers from Nepal who were stationed here.
The site is not freely accessible today as it is used by the Immigration Training Academy and storage operations. Visitors should note that access is restricted and prior permission is required.
This location served as the finish line for the annual Oxfam Trailwalker event, a demanding hiking competition. This connection made the barracks a well-known landmark for many hikers in the region.
