Tuen Mun South Extension, Railway extension project in Tuen Mun District, Hong Kong
The Tuen Mun South Extension is a proposed rapid transit railway line in Tuen Mun District that will link the current terminus with the southern waterfront area. The line consists of an elevated track measuring approximately 2.4 kilometers with two intermediate stations planned along its path.
The Transport and Housing Bureau requested a proposal for this extension in 2016 from the Mass Transit Railway operator. The company then developed and submitted revised plans over the following two years.
The extension design incorporates local community needs by relocating and upgrading existing facilities, including the Tuen Mun Swimming Pool with indoor heated pools.
Travelers can expect a journey of roughly five minutes between the current station and the southern terminus once construction finishes. The new route will also provide access to relocated community facilities in the vicinity.
The project incorporates solar panels and vegetated roofs designed to reduce environmental impact. These sustainable features are part of a wider strategy to improve operational efficiency with green technologies.
